The stone symbol of Piatra Neamț, Pietricica Mountain rises to a maximum altitude of 590 m. It dominates the southern part of the city and offers one of the finest views over the Bistrița valley and the surrounding mountains.
Pietricica Mountain is a unique geological relic, the remnant of an overturned fold formed in the Palaeogene, which preserves Oligocene layers rich in fossil deposits.
Scientifically, it is a true natural archive of the geological history of the Eastern Carpathians.
Over time Pietricica has been seen as a defining landmark of the city's identity – many researchers even believe that the name “Piatra” (“the Stone”) comes from this rocky massif, visible from every corner of the town.
Although its altitude is modest, the view from the top of Pietricica is spectacular: Ceahlău Mountain, the Bistrița valley, lakes Bâtca Doamnei and Reconstrucția, as well as the Cozla, Cernegura and Cârloman hills.
At sunset a special light colours the city and the mountains in warm tones, making any visit memorable.

A small cave cut into the rock on the slope facing the Bistrița, said to have been a retreat for hermits. A place full of mystery and spirituality.
According to tradition, this is where the border guards lit fires to warn of approaching danger. A strategic point with deep historical meaning.
Once described as a “harsh and bare” mountain, Pietricica has been largely reforested in recent decades, and today its paths offer gentle walks, viewpoints and natural shelters.
