What you'll see

Ceahlău Massif – peaks

Two spectacular peaks

Ocolașul Mare (1,907 m) and Toaca (1,904 m), with views stretching to Izvorul Muntelui Lake and the Hășmaș Mountains. Sunrise on Toaca is unforgettable.

Iconic rock formations

Panaghia, Piatra Ciobanului, Scaunele Zeilor – formations that look as if they were carved to impress.

Duruitoarea Waterfall

A drop of about 30 metres on the Rupturilor Valley, a must-see stop on the trails around Durău.

National park biodiversity

Spruce and fir forests, alpine meadows, chamois and capercaillie. Ceahlău is part of Ceahlău National Park (7,742 hectares), a protected area with strict rules for behaving in nature.

Why it's worth it

Well-marked routes

The scenery changes every 30–40 minutes, from dense forest to open meadows and then alpine ridges. The trails are well marked and maintained.

A perfect microclimate

Clean air, cool summers and vivid colours in autumn. In October the forest turns into a palette of yellow, orange and red.

Legends and stories

The tale of Baba Dochia and the “pyramid” of light at the Feast of the Transfiguration – local legends add charm to the experience. Ceahlău is not just a mountain, it is a symbol.
